Who loves a good ‘ole recycled toilet roll craft? I think the best Christmas decorations are the homemade ones, how about you?
Toilet roll crafts are one of our faves as you don’t need much to make them – it also reuses those cardboard tubes.
These Santa Claus and Mrs Claus toilet roll ornaments are really easy to make with just a few materials. Inspire children to make their own Santa or Mrs Claus – or perhaps they might decide to make their own Christmas characters!
You’ll only need a few materials to make these Santa Claus and Mrs Claus ornaments.
You’ll need:
Toiler Roll Insert – one for each ornament
Red felt
White felt, or cotton pads
Black card
Green card and red sequins – for Mrs Claus
Skin coloured paper – yellow, brown, white…
Black pen
Scissors
Glue
How to make your ornament:
Cut a piece of skin coloured paper to fit around the toilet roll. It should cover approximately half of the toilet roll. Stick carefully.
Cut a piece of red felt to fit around the toilet roll as a coat. Stick carefully.
Cut the white felt or cotton pad into a hair shape and stick. Repeat to make a beard if making Santa.
Cut some black card into two small circles. Stick on to make buttons.
Cut some red felt into a hat shape. Add a band of white felt or cotton pad, plus a white circle on the top of the hat. Stick on top of the hair.
Add eyes and a mouth with a black pen. If making Mrs Claus you could add some holly using green card and red sequins, or card.
To finish, cut a strip of felt and stick inside the top of the toilet roll – to make a loop for hanging the ornament.
Repeat if you would like to make both characters! Or encourage children to make some of their own ideas, using the materials available. They could make some of the elves from Santa’s workshop or any other characters they can think of!
You can hang these ornaments on the tree or anywhere else in the house. We discovered a mug tree makes a good place to hang ornaments in the kitchen!
Do your children like to make toilet roll crafts? What characters do your children like to make?
