Father’s Day Gift Guide with Debenhams (Plus Homemade Gift Wrap!)

May 20, 2018 by Rosie 11 Comments

Father’s Day is right around the corner on Sunday 17th June! This is a perfect chance to show dads how much we appreciate them.

I’ve put together a handy Father’s Day Gift Guide with Debenhams for you, with all of my top picks for what you can buy – for your children’s daddies, your own dad, or any other fathers or father figures in your life! It really is the thought that counts. So I’ve picked out some ideas for all budgets. Whether you went to spend a little or a lot, there’s an idea for you!

I think the personal touch makes a gift so much more special. So I’ve also included a fun and easy idea for homemade gift wrap that your kids can make! You know how much I like homemade gift wrapping 😉

We are going to take this opportunity to really show The Hubster how much we love and appreciate him. It’s been a busy few months and I honestly don’t know what we would have done without him! Since our move from San Francisco to Cambridge he’s been so busy both working and looking after his family. Whilst being a fun dad too! We’re treating him a bit this Father’s Day, so I’ll let you know our picks especially for him too. (Hope he’s not reading…)

Disclosure: This was part of a Debenhams Father’s Day campaign. All picks and opinions are honest and my own.

Father’s Day Gift Guide with Debenhams

Ralph Lauren Polo Sport Eau de Toilette

How about a fresh new after shave for summer time? You can’t go wrong with Ralph Lauren and at last check the Polo Sport after shave was on sale, making this a great value gift too. It’s a clean and crisp scent, perfect for active dads. Winner!

Phillips Click & Style Shave and Style

The Hubster has been after a new electric shaver for a long time, so we’ve decided to treat him! There’s a whole range of great quality shavers at Debenhams. This Phillips Click & Style Shaver is a fab buy if you want to splurge a bit, but also get good value. It has easy click on/click off shaver and beard trimmer attachments, plus can be used wet in the shower. Perfect for men who want to get ready all in one step (i.e. one shower and done!)

Regatta Grey Wash Case

I love this Grey ‘Burford’ Wash Case from Regatta. It’s made from water resistant fabric with a zippered closure and easy grab handle. Nice and practical to stash all dad’s wash gear. I love the beachy colours and style. This would be perfect for any summer trips away or camping holidays.

Mantaray Orange Textured Stripe Polo Shirt

You can’t beat a nice polo shirt for the summer. There’s a whole range of lovely polo shirts at Debenhams, I especially like the Mantaray shirts – lots of stripes and lots of blues! This textured stripe polo shirt comes in both orange and turquoise colour themes – all the colours of the beach 🙂 (I’ve bought one of these for my own daddy. Shhh…!)

Hammond & Co Tan Leather Belt

My hubby loves belts and wears them regularly. There’s lots of belts to choose from, I especially like this Hammond & Co tan leather belt. It’s made from 100 % luxury Italian leather and finished with a silver-toned buckle. This looks smart for work days, but could also be worn with more casual trousers and t-shirt as well. I think The Hubster will love this!

Maine Grey Knitted Thermal Beanie Hat

Do you have a hat loving dad in your life? My hubby loves hats and can never have enough of them! We finally picked this grey knitted thermal beanie hat by Maine New England. He’s been wanting a beanie hat. This will be warm for more blustery days (which let’s face it, we get a lot of!) It comes in a knitted finish, with a super-soft fleece lining for added comfort.

Blunt Blue Compact Umbrella

I’m loving this compact and funky umbrella! It offers an easy-to-store compact design with a handy cover. Featuring ‘Blunt XS_Metro’ technology on the tips of the canopy edge to aid in performance and safety, it is finished with a secure wrist strap. I love this electric blue colour – enough to brighten up the rainiest of days!

That’s my Father’s Day Gift Guide! I hope that you find something to wrap up ready for dad! There’s heaps more fab finds for dads over on the Debenhams Father’s Day Gifts page, so do have a browse to find something special.

Once you’ve finished your shopping, I’ve got an easy and fun homemade gift wrap activity that the kids can do! All you need to do is decorate parcel paper with your kids hand prints! Or you could use foot prints (if you are feeling brave…)

Homemade Gift Wrap

Your kids can do this as an outdoor activity and have some fun too, whilst making some colourful gift wrap for dad (or grandad’s) fab present. All bases covered!

All you need is:

  • Brown Parcel Paper
  • Washable Paint – variety of colours

Plus:

  • Paper plates or paint palettes
  • Large paint brushes
  • Overalls
  • Plastic sheet, or newspaper

This is a perfect activity to do outside, now the days are getting warmer. You can contain any mess outside, then get the kids straight in the bath! But you can also cover a table inside or put a plastic sheet on the floor instead.

Get overalls on and cover a large surface or area with a plastic sheet, news paper, or scrap paper. If you are outside you’ll need to weigh it down with some stones (or paint pots!)

Roll out a section of the brown parcel paper and weigh it down as well.

Get painting! Brush different coloured paints onto your kids hands, or older ones can do this themselves. Print onto the paper.

You might like to set up a little ‘wash station’ with a bowl of water, some soap and a towel. Children can wash their hands in between colours. I think my kids enjoyed washing their hands even more than the painting! 😉

Repeat the hand painting with lots of different colours. Print onto any length of paper that you need for dad’s gift.

Allow to dry while you get cleaned up!

LP and Little M had great fun doing this! Now we just have to wrap up daddy’s gifts and we are all ready for Father’s Day. I think we’ll take The Hubster for a trip out somewhere and treat him to lunch too!

What are you doing for Father’s Day? Are you treating dad to any gifts?

Oh I know, we didn’t celebrate it as kids either, was just never a thing. Now we’ve lived in the states for a while we’ve adopted all ‘the days’ 😉

Feeling a little guilty as my 4 year old has been watching Dinosaur Train for half the day today. Then I asked her what a hypothesis is and she said “an idea you can test” so now I feel better 😆

Life is throwing everything at us at the moment. If you feel like you’re about to topple and fall with the weight of it all, you are not alone.

Wow, it’s been a while! I took a bit of a soci Wow, it’s been a while!

I took a bit of a social media break, as life took over. As it does from time to time. So taking the time to say hello to you all again.👋

I’m Rosie and I love to share simple ideas to inspire kids to get arty, crafty and creative. 🎨

I also 💚the outdoors and try to share this love of nature in many of my projects. 🌲

This is me and my crew, back in October on my 40th birthday! A beautiful beachy day. 🏝

Since then we’ve bought a house, moved and had one kiddo in isolation for 14 days 🤪- hence the radio silence.

A break has helped me ditch the overwhelm and simplify my priorities. But now, I’m so ready to start getting creative again and bring on all the festive vibes! 🎄

When life gets overwhelming, don’t be afraid to step back and focus only on the things that are important. Take a breath, get outdoors and then reprioritise, one step at a time. ❤️

How are you doing with lockdowns, winter and festive preparation? What helps you step back and reprioritise?
What is your lasting memory of this past few month What is your lasting memory of this past few months with your kids?

For me it’s been bike rides and making things together. 🖍 ✂️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Funny how our minds gloss over the stresses of home school and lack of ‘me time’ 🤣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve not been on social media much lately - I’ve been making the most of the end of summer, adjusting to the ‘new normal’ and figuring out what is next for me now that my littlest has started school. 😊
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One thing I am doing is starting to sort through the pile of creations 🖼 (and clutter too!) in the house. It’s reminding me of all the lovely things we have done together (even when mum guilt sometimes tells me otherwise) and helping to clear my mind too. ❤️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re feeling a little lost at the moment I can recommend a good sort out as a starting point! @whatkatysaiduk is a wonderful inspiration on decluttering. 🥰
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are your children back at school, or are you still in the thick of homeschool?
Anyone else swamped with projects from this year?! I’d love any ideas on how you like to organise art work!
(Press trip) Do you have a Dino fan in your family (Press trip) Do you have a Dino fan in your family?
We had a roarr-some time at @roarr_dinosauradventure in Norfolk last weekend.
With dinosaur trails, a splash zone, Jurassic putt and much more we all had an amazing family day. I was really impressed with the social distancing and safety measures in place too. Full review to follow soon!
Have you been on any fun family days out recently?
Is home school still happening in your family?! Af Is home school still happening in your family?! After 12 weeks of lockdown we’ve ditched ‘home school’ for ‘life school.’ So far the kids have made and decorated their own cakes, helped do laundry, vacuum and mop. 🧼 Plus lots of free play, projects and learning about topics they are interested in - mainly dinosaurs! 🦖 🦕
I feel so much more relaxed for letting go of formal work! (Let’s face it there wasn’t much of it happening anyway...😬) But I was still pressuring myself mentally and it was starting to create power struggles (with my eldest very spirited child!) When you start doing things that you and the children are motivated to do it takes the pressure off everyone. And the miracle is that’s when the real learning happens! 🌟
My son has even written about his fossil collection - a change from tearing my hair out to get him to write! The kids have played more independently too, as I’ve ‘left them to it’ more. Plus - the house is even starting to look just a little bit cleaner! 🧹

So if home school is just not happening anymore, I’d recommend doing an Elsa and just ‘Let it Goooo’. Swap it for ‘life school’ and I guarantee the kids will be learning equally valuable lessons. 💡Just do what works for your family. ❤️ Are you still home schooling? Do you feel like you’re trying to ‘do it all’? Or have you embraced a more flexible approach?

I’d love to hear any ideas you have that we could try? My kids love dinosaurs and creative things. Plus I’m trying to encourage independent playing and helping in the house, so all ideas welcome! 💡
Sleeping with her babies. 👶🏻👶🏾❤️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve been listening to black voices over the last few days. Thinking about the BLM movement and ways I can do more. I wasn’t sure whether to share, but I’ve learned it’s better to speak than to say nothing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve always thought of myself as someone who embraces diversity. I’ve travelled, met and befriended people of all colours, nationalities and religions. As a teacher I’ve valued each child’s individuality, as well as seeing them all as equals. I try to encourage my children to be kind to all others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I realise this is NOT enough. I need to do more. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the last week it’s that - we have to take ACTION against racism. It’s not enough to just ‘not be racist’, we have to be ANTI racist to make a change.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what action do I commit to do?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Listen - keep listening to black people’s stories and struggles.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Educate - myself and my children further. Read books that spark CONVERSATIONS with my children and others. Keep learning and keep trying to do better.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Amplify - promote black voices, especially those in the fields of education and children.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re a mama or a teacher and wondering how you can take ACTION against racism, I’d really recommend taking a look at @readlikearockstar and @apron_education - they have some brilliant resources to share with your kids. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you talk about racism with your kids? How are you taking action against racism?
